Title: Guiding photons by breaking time reversal symmetry
Abstract: Having full control over light propagation is a long-lasting goal and vital for many applications. Various approaches have been proposed to guide the photons, among them are nonlinear materials, disorder systems, topological structures, metamaterials, and photonic crystals.
In this talk I show that breaking time reversal symmetry, by means of different mechanisms such as non-Hermiticity and/or spatiotemporal modulation, can provide us with a powerful knob to guide the flow of light. Specifically, I will focus on our recent works: (i) flat band generation by means of non-Hermiticity, (ii) unidirectional laser/absorbers, (iii) unidirectional localization of photons.
